✿ Overall Thoughts ✿

♥ Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted? If you predicted anything. ♥

I honestly thought I would write more as I predicted  to write 160k this year but alas,,, I’m not that jobless anymore. I had less time to write as I started working in an office the latter half of the year but even after everything, I think I did a pretty good job holding myself accountable! I also had a run-in with impostor syndrome and my annual why-do-i-even-bother moment so I didn’t really write for the last two months of the year (sadly). But I’m back!

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January, and was it as unpredicted as this entire year?

I didn’t think I would write for IVE! I thought they give off a certain colleague-esque vibe but I really dig whatever Wonyo and Liz have. The plain jealousy on Liz’s face from time to time against Wonyo’s adoration can be something so precious for me.

♥ What’s your own favourite story of the year? Compared to overall? ♥

Warm blood! While it didn’t give what I intended it to give (action-packed romance, finding home within enemy lines, etc.), I love it regardless. I don’t really re-read my stories because it gives me second-hand embarrassment, but I come back to some parts of this story from time to time. I think this was the most fun I had with writing in a long while!

♥ Do you have a story from previous years you now feel is underappreciated? Better than you remembered it to be? ♥

Smoke point. Please love her, she’s a little chunky and a little aloof, but I promise it’s not that bad!

♥ Did you take any writing risks this year? ♥

No <3 I love my comfort zone.

♥ Biggest source of inspiration? ♥

Pinterest, my no.1, the only one in my life, the source of all my inspiration ♥ Otherwise, I commute a lot so I have to keep myself entertained, so I just come up with scenarios while staring out of the window. Also shout out for TS for providing all the angsty songs for this activity.

♥ Do you have any fanfic goals for the new year? ♥

I want to write a long fic! Something around 40-50k because I always seem to tap out at 20k. Something so slow burn, you spend more than half of the fic hoping they would look at each other. Also, I want to quit writing for so many fests. I’m done, I’m burnt out. GG Jukebox, FTR and maybe AESPAfest are the only exceptions.

✿ From my past year of writing, what was… ✿

♥ My best story (or scene!) of this year: ♥

Warm blood. I especially loved any Giselle/Winter interactions in that fic ♥

♥ My most popular story of this year: ♥

Light a fire (that cannot die). Honestly, I think it was mostly due to the impeccable timing with the prequel movie coming out.

♥ Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: ♥

Smoke point, but I do get it why.

♥ Longest story of the year: ♥

Warm blood. (Finally getting over 20k!!!!)

♥ Shortest story of the year: ♥

The more you say (the less I know). Not even 1k! Big step for me.

♥ Most fun story to write: ♥

None, I make myself miserable with my own writing </3 But otherwise, Warm blood.

♥ Story that needed the most research: ♥

Light a fire (that cannot die). Like… I re-read the Hunger Games books, yet I still left out the interview part :’)

♥ Story with the single sexiest moment: ♥

The first universe in The anatomy of a memory! Rockstar, womanizer Winter with a full-scale dragon tattoo on her back. I want her </33

♥ Story with the single cutest/sweetest moment: ♥

Warm blood when they speak over their respective bugs ♥ They are so bad at their jobs, it’s so lovely </3

♥ Most “holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you” story: ♥

A story that I released anonymously :’) But also, the universe in The anatomy of a memory where they can finally be together in peace and a rioter’s arrow shoots through Mj’s throat. Huh. Where does that come from?

♥ Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: ♥

Smoke point! I didn’t know where the story was going, but I did love writing touch-starved, hero complexed Minjeong and slightly morally ambiguous Jimin. (Though, I think in that story, respectively the characters were interesting, but I don’t think they worked well together. I struggled a lot trying to make them fall in love, but I’m not too convinced either.:/)

♥ Hardest story to write: ♥

This year, I didn’t find any fic hard to write! It’s easier when I finish a story in one go and not in chapters because then I can go back and modify what gets stuck in the storyline. For chaptered fics, I tend to post the chapter as soon as it’s done and then I’m stuck with writing myself into a corner.

♥ Biggest disappointment: ♥

Uhh. To be honest… The anatomy of a memory. It just feels off for some reason, I wish I had more time to fine tune it.

♥ Biggest surprise: ♥

Hunger pangs. I really enjoyed writing Winter and Ningning together, I’m planning to write for them this year as well!

♥ Most unintentionally telling story: ♥

Also Hunger pangs :’) Oh to be in love with your friend.

✿ Favourite Opening Lines: ✿

On the soft, white canopy of snow, the spill of fresh blood is stark. (smoke point)

She doesn’t know Giselle's real name. Nor does Giselle know hers. (warm blood)

✿ Favourite Closing Lines: ✿

  • None, my closing lines are the weakest lmao

  • if i have to choose maybe:

The clock ticks back and before the game officially starts, Minjeong prays. (light a fire (that cannot die))

“Thank you for staying by my side each time,” Minjeong adds, the signature adorable half-smile pulling on her lips. “Thank you for not giving me up.”

“Never.”

It's all Jimin can choke out, too caught up in the moment. Minjeong laughs, sharp and free, as she reaches up to cradle Jimin’s cheeks between her cold hands. The kiss she breathes on Jimin’s lips feels final. A dot at the end of the sentence. Jimin's been wrong about this, but the comfortable contentment that sits in her stomach warm like sweet wine brings her to wish this really was the end. (the anatomy of a memory)

✿ Favourite lines from anywhere: ✿

Jimin’s not sure if it’s a memorial. If it’s for Minjeong to see in later lives, to make her recall her lost memories. To stop Jimin from suffering alone. (the anatomy of a memory)

One version of what happened: Chaeyoung is the witch who wanted to kill crown princess Sumin.

Another version: Sumin kissed Chaeyoung as she rubbed healing balm on the dagger wounds under her heart. (the more you say (the less i know))

Minjeong misses her own self before it was murdered on the operating table of otherness. Before she was cut open, skin pulled back and her insides vulnerable to the world in untrustworthy hands; before her innocence was sacrificed for the touch of the future. She treats it as a murder — without a wake, without a funeral. She feels like her body is still laying on the cold operation table, organs sorted to leave her hollow.

Now, she runs the pads of her fingers on silver scars, with a woman who burns blue and feels her empty shell of her body with warmth. Now, she’s ignited with a foreign feeling, to keep the mere vessel of a body alive and well. Even with her insides fresh and glistening lay beside her, even if she’s empty from years of getting used to the thought of dying young — she wants to live. (smoke point)

✿ Looking back at 2023: ✿

While I spent the last few months of the year throwing a pity party for myself for getting stuck in writing, being stagnant, I think, looking back, I did a good job. I became less focused on statistics which is amazing considering I kept checking them every single day. I also think I got better with run-on sentences!

✿ Fic-writing goals for 2024: ✿

  1. Less fests!

  2. A long story (at least 40k)

  3. Write a rom-com finally!

  4. I wanna start writing fic commentary

  5. Enjoy writing:)
